Garmin StreetPilot III GPS System

I purchased the new Garmin StreetPilot III system from www.gpsnow.com and I'm having a ball with it.  This unit uses high resolution map data from www.navtech.com which is used by all the systems which are currently available in the USA which do turn by turn navigation with automatic rerouting.  Obviously the first thing you do is to see if the unit would drive the way you would on familiar routes.  I drive from the D.C area to Baltimore everyday using the same route I've always used.  I let the SP III do the talking literally and it shaved 2 miles and 10 minutes off my route!.   Sometimes you are really unfamiliar with "familiar" routes.  You just get used to the same old route.  It may not be the best in terms of distance and time.

One mode is to just leave it running without trying to route.  It shows your current position on the map with approaching intersections announced on the screen 10 to 30 seconds before getting to the intersection.  It also shows real-time house address codes while driving down a street.

For a detailed review of the unit see: http://www.gpsinformation.net/spiii/sp3review.htm by Joe Mehaffey and Jack Yeazel.

From the drivers seat (a little low, when driving the top of the unit is even with the top of the dash and bottom of the windshield so it does not interfere with vision).

Instead of the stock mount above which sticks to the dash I'm using the RAM mount shown below:
